Incense
Incense is a special mechanic allowing for multiple unique events, rewards, and storylines. First, you need to access the Incense Shrine, also called the Buddha Altar. To get there, go to the Gene Room and tap the button on the wall. It allows you to switch between the Arsenal, where you can view your gear, and the Shrine, where you can use Incense .
3 incenses can be loaded at a time, with each incense being subdivided into 5 charges. This is extremely important info later on for making the most of your incense.
What to Use Incense On
From time to time, critters will show up in the Gene Room. The most common are rats, frogs, and cockroaches. Tapping on the animal while having at least one incense charge left in the altar will fire a laser at the critter.
Firing at them will reduce them to ashes, giving 200 Demon God Cells. Frogs give Zombie Cells , Roaches give Mutant Cells , and Mice give Demon Cells , Angel Cells , and Mecha Cells .
Occasionally, other critters will spawn besides the usual frog, roach, or mouse. Shooting them may trigger unique events or rewards. More detail under Special Incense Events.
Loading 3 incense into the shrine and tapping it repeatedly will make the shrine angry and shoot at the sky. An object that can be collected for rewards will fall into the pond. Reaching certain milestones may also trigger unique events, storylines, and rewards. More detail under Shooting the Sky.
How to Get Incense
Incense is difficult to get reliably, and is mostly obtained through luck. The Vending Machine has some incense packs which can be purchased once, but most other known ways of getting incense involve chance.

Special Incense Events
All incense used on animals in the room will count towards completing these events, whether you use them all at once or days apart.
At some point, a small turtle with a purple bandana will appear in the Gene Room. Lasering him takes 3 sticks of incense, and will prompt more turtles to show up, one after the other, for a fight.
After defeating Sewer Turtle 4, a golden rat will show up in the Gene Room that also needs to be lasered with incense (3 hits). This will reward the Kungfu Rat Gene Sim. and prompt Sewer Turtle 4, now just Sewer Turtle, to begin a mailbox storyline on the path to partnership. He will ask 100k B-tads, a Dragon Orb, and another 5 incense before moving in as a partner.

To unlock Ghost Zadako as a partner, fully defeat Hitman No.8. She will then appear in the computer in the Gene Room and will require 1 Incense . Additionally, you will obtain Hitman No.8 License.
At some point, a bat will appear near the fridge in the Gene Room. The bat requires 4/5 of a stick of incense (or 4 hits total) to knock down. After those 4 hits, he'll drop green goo everywhere before flying off. He'll appear again as Dracula, ready for a fight. After eventually defeating him, a new bat will appear in the same place. This bat has a shield and takes 4 incense sticks (or 20 hits total) to knock down. He will also show up for a fight.

Unicon will only show up after Grandpire has been defeated and 20 or more cockroaches have been killed with the incense shrine. This can be done in any order. Once both events are completed, a group of cockroaches will show up. Hitting a small cockroach once with incense will cause them to all congregate together into one big mass known as "Unicon." This fight has a total of 5 stages with the following stats and rewards:

A Droplet Probe will arrive in the gene room following the defeat of Unicon 5. After zapping it with incense 30 times (6 incense sticks required), you will initiate the following 4 fights. Their special stat "Freeze enemy for x rounds" functions identically to the Ring of Stupor/Paralysis Ring and will prevent you for attacking for up to 8 rounds in combat. These fights are suspected to be a reference to the novel "The Three-Body Problem" by Liu Cixin.

Once Hitman No. 15 EX is defeated in interception, he'll be reincarnated as a god. The next time 100% is reached at the Altar of the Gods, the "God of Whales" will show up to brag about it. He'll also give VVVVIP Card as a first reward. He'll mention "leaving something behind", and at home base there will be a giant god in the sky.
In order to knock him down, 3 incenses need to be loaded into the shrine and shot into the sky. If this happens to be a 5-increment-shot, that event will happen first and another 3 incense needs to be shot into the sky to defeat him. Doing so rewards Skull of Valor and 1,000 W-Tads.
Shooting 15-20 blue rats will prompt a rat to drop a minigame called "Cheese or Love" which rewards Angel Cells for playing.
Occasionally, the Unknown Creature will appear in the Gene Room. Hitting him with incense will cause him to drop a "Mysterious Thing" instantly and crawl away. (Don't worry, this doesn't affect him very much). Doing this 10 times will drop the green relic Father's Photo.
Shooting the Sky
Finally, loading 3 incense and tapping the altar repeatedly will "make the shrine angry" and cause him to shoot at the sky. Note that this will consume all of your incense, however only 2 and 1/5 stick is truly needed: as long as you have one tick of durability left on the third stick, you can shoot the sky, meaning you can take 4 shots at other critters and still be able to shoot the sky. Shooting down 5 critters, however, will not leave you with enough incense, so be careful!
There are two types of events that may occur when shooting the sky. The first and most common type is shooting down a helicopter. Helicopters only give the same base rewards of: 5-6 random rocket materials, Rank I-IV, Tool Chest +150, and Refine Speedup +4h. The range of materials you can receive is:

The other type of events are those resulting from reaching certain milestones. After shooting down a certain number of objects from the sky, or when certain special conditions are met, there are special shoot-down events that may happen, listed below.
