Description

On Jul 7, 1510, Raphael painted this mural in Vatican Museums.

This monumental fresco depicts more than fifty philosophers. Philosophers and scientists from different periods and schools gathered on the steps and platforms. It is a rather spectacular group of scholars. Raphael ingeniously put multiple figures above and below the steps to form an interspersed and dispersed composition. The deep arcade extends the depth of field of the drawing, creatively addresses the relationship between people and buildings, and uses clear visual language to reveal human's eternal pursuit of spiritual value.
