Description
On Jul 8, 1637 AD the French scholar Fermat wrote this formula after reading Arithmetica, a work of Diophantus.
Fermat wrote: It is impossible for a cube to be divided into the sum of two cubes, or a fourth power divided into the sum of two fourth powers, or any power higher than the second divided into the sum of two equal powers. I know I have discovered a wonderful proof, but I do not have room to write it. Since he never wrote it, and his other theorems contributed a lot to mathematics, many mathematicians were intrigued. Over the next few hundred years, thousands of people claimed to have proved Fermat's Last Theorem, but all of them have been wrong.
