Description

On Jun 1, 661 AD, Buddha's Skull Sarira from Bharata was enshrined in the Chinese palace.

General Wang traveled back to Chang'an to see the emperor after leaving Bharata with the Buddha's Skull Sarira. The emperor ensconced the Sarira in the imperial palace and invited the Grand Monk to hold ceremonies to worship it every day.

[A brief history of the Buddha's Skull Sarira]

8 Buddha's Skull Sariras were created during the Kapilvastu period and were revered through the Ashoka and Siladitya eras in Bharata. One of them later was transferred to Chang'an during the Tang dynasty, and was recently excavated from the Grand Bao'en Temple.
