Description
On Nov 8, 1820, Alphonse de Lamartine published his first collection of poems.
"Meditations" is a collection of poems mourning the passing of his young lover. The poet wrote about love and death, and that life was all about loss and pain. He believed that hope came from departures and the idea of heaven, and that one could seek comfort from nature. Lamartine's poems were mainly expressions of feelings, creating a feeling of lightness and elegance with simple language. His poems paved the way for romantic French lyric poetry.
