Description
On Dec 21, 1976, Mary Leakey discovered footprints of ancient apes in Tanzania.
These are the earliest human footprints. Carbon dating of these preserved human footprints shows that they are from 3.7 million years ago. Analysis of the shape and gait of the foot has determined that the footprint was from upright walking. They belong to the species Australopithecus afarensis, which was becoming more human-like. These footprints hint at the eventual evolution of Homo sapiens.
