Description
On Apr 24, AD 756, Empress Komyo presented the Ranjyatai to Todai-ji. Since then, it has been kept there for 1,300 years.
This incense wood is preserved in Todai-ji. It is about 16 cm long and weighs 26 catties. It is a type of fragrant yellow-brown, containing naimuxinal and exudes a fragrance of orchids. As a precious national treasure collected by the royal family, it is known as the most fragrant wood in the world.
