Description
On Apr 26, 1593, Hasegawa Tohaku sorrowfully drew the Pine Trees Screen after the death of his eldest son.
Hasegawa Tohaku lost his son, so he drew an ink painting to express his grief. The image is filled with mist. He presented pine leaves and the ground with heavier strokes. The pine forest on the left connects to the snow-capped mountains on the right. In the background, two pine forests are tilted towards each other. The artist cleverly used vivid strokes to create an ethereal piece that combines the essence of Chinese painting and the uniqueness of Japanese painting.
