Guide:Gear Progression
Gear Guide
This guide assumes you have read through Gear and the associated Guide on that page. This guide is primarily targeted for mid-to-late game players who are trying to figure out how to prioritize their usage of Amulet of Will /
Crystal of Will /
Eye of Horus for gear upgrades.
For more information on how Combat Damage is calculated, see: Combat Damage
General Tips for Gear
1) Percent Boosts are better than flat stat boosts
An improvement of +2% Ignore DEF is better than a flat increase to ATK. This is because in the long term, enemies will have greater and greater DEF stats. A flat increase of +1000 ATK is not as good as lowering an enemy with DEF of 100K by 2%. This lowering of DEF will increase the final DMG done by 2K rather than the 1K flat attack boost. As you progress further and further in the game, the % boosts become stronger and stronger.
Example:
Let's take the final battle with Ratman as an example.Assumptions:
- You have enough
Eye of Horus and
Crystal of WillCrystal of Will to make a single +2 piece of gear.
- You have all the base gear to make either
Norris-chuck +2, or
Excalibur EX +2
- Your Snail has a base ATK of 50,000 when you have two empty gear slots that will be filled with
Norris-chuck and
Excalibur EX.
- For simplicity, we're ignoring the different calculations for Elemental DMG, and instead just treating it as straight ATK.
Comparing the two scenarios below, you can see that the 2% higher Ignore DEF boost provides more final DMG than the additional 690 flat ATK. The benefits of the % boosts only become greater and greater as you progress.
Scenario 1:
Excalibur EX +2, grants 600 ATK from base stats, and +270 ATK from its effect, plus +270 Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind DMG. (Total: +1950 ATK for simplicity)
Norris-chuck +0, grants 300 ATK from base stats, and Ignore DEF +12% from its effects.
Ratman's Defense: 45,190 - (45,190 * .12) = 39,767
Gear +ATK: +2,250 = 1950 + 300
Total DMG: 12,483 = 50,000 + 2,250 - 39,767
Scenario 2:
Excalibur EX +0, grants 300 ATK from base stats, and +240 from its effect.
Norris-chuck +2, grants 600 ATK from base stats, and +420 Earth DMG and Ignore DEF +14% from its effects.
Ratman's Defense: 45,190 - (45,190 * .14) = 38,864 (rounded up)
Gear +ATK: +1,560 = 1020 + 540
Total DMG: 12,696 = 50,000 + 1,560 - 38,864
2) Its better to have a +2 of an S-Tier gear than two +1's of any tier
This is because +1 gear only combines the effects of the two gears, and does not improve the effects. For almost all gear, only one of the two effects is really S-Tier, so combining gear does not provide a major benefit. Improving the effects at +2 (and beyond) is how you really improve gear.
Example:
Norris-chuck +0 has the effect Ignore enemy DEF +12%, combining it with
Cretaceous Weapon +0 does not improve the Ignore enemy DEF +12% (which is the S-Tier effect). Once it reaches +2, the effect will increase to Ignore enemy DEF +14% - which is worth the extra
Eye of Horus and
Crystal of Wills.
3) Reset your gear
You will have a limited number of EoH and AoW (unless you're a super-whale). It is best to periodically dismantle your gear to switch between Farming and Progression setups. It costs 100 W-Tads to dismantle gear into its parts. You DO NOT lose any Glue, B-Tads, Orange Reagent, etc when dismantling. You just lose the 100 W-Tads price to dismantle gear by 1 Tier.
Example:
You currently haveFortress +2 being used for Progression, and
The Great Scientist +0 in your inventory. You want to switch from Progression gear to Farming gear for the next week. You can spend 200 W-Tads to dismantle
Fortress from +2 to +0 (100 W-Tads to go from +2 to +1, another 100 W-Tads to go from +1 to +0), then use the B-Tads, Glue,
Amulet of Will from dismantling from (+1 to +0), and
Amulet of Will +1 (from dismantling from +2 to +1) to upgrade your
The Great Scientist to +2.
Exploration Progression
If you are trying to push your level in explorations (not domination, but pushing to beat new bosses), you will want to focus on ATK and overall stats. Many of the "First round" bonuses are not really needed because you're not focusing on domination.
Below are the generally accepted Tiers and Priorities for Gear. There are tables for Farming Gear, Form-Specific Gear, Red +0 Gear, and Red +2 (and beyond) Gear. Generally you should avoid +1 gear because it just combines two effects on the same piece of gear, and almost all gear has one good effect and one ok/not-great effect at the +1 level. From +2 and beyond, the good effect starts to increase. So its better to invest your Amulet of Will /
Crystal of Will /
Eye of Horus into one +2 gear rather than two +1 gears. You can still equip the Red gear that has the good effects at +0.
Remember that you will always want to also include the Orange/Red gear for the domain you are exploring in addition to the gear listed below. The Realm gear is considered S-Tier because it include a DMG +N% effect for the domain.
Choosing a Realm Trait for Exploration Progression
Options:
General Recommendation: Sacred Mirror
For progression you should generally be using Sacred Mirror. There are some scenarios where Cosmos is better, but as an all-around choice, go for Sacred Mirror. If you are really close to defeating an apostle, but not quite there with Sacred Mirror try Cosmos on your next run.
Choosing a Form for Exploration Progression
There are really two choices of Forms here: Dragon and Zombie. Typically Dragon is considered the best form (even if its a Tier below your Zombie tier) due to the stats boosts it provides. However if you use Zombie Form with the form weapon Serket Staff, you get a significant boost to the Ignore DEF % when in Zombie form. This can make the difference in many fights.
Choosing Gear for Exploration Progression
You have 12 slots to fill. You will want to reserve 1 slot for Realm Gear (it will include a DMG +N% bonus for the realm). You will then want to prioritize Getting as may God/S-Tier +2's and beyond as you can, while still filling out the rest of your gear with Red (+0) gear. You may want to choose having 1-2 orange gear and one more +2 gear, rather than having all Red (+0) gear and one less +2. Really this is a balancing act and you'll want to do some trial and error.
Ideal 12 Gear Slots:
Time Wanderer (or realm-specific gear if you do not have Time Wanderer yet)
Strength Master's Sword (+0 — if you have +1 or beyond great)
Norris-chuck (+2 or beyond)
Big Bounce (+2 or beyond)
Poseidon's Trident (+2 or beyond)
Golden Drazgul Fang (+2 or beyond -- if you have purchased it, if not skip this one)
Fortress (+2 or beyond -- personal tradeoff between leaving this at +0 and making
Norris-chuck +3)
Excalibur EX (+0 is fine, if you've got multiple +3's or a +4 and some +3's, start thinking about making this +2)
Power Spinach (+0 is fine, if you've got multiple +3's or a +4 and some +3's, start thinking about making this +2)
Incredible Key (+0 is fine, if you've got multiple +3's or a +4 and some +3's, start thinking about making this +2)
- Form Gear
- Zombie Form:
Soul Walking (+0) or
Serket Staff (+1 or better)
- Dragon Form:
Claw of Destruction (+0) or
Fang of Tiamat (+1 or better)
- Zombie Form:
To fill the remaining slot(s), choose from the following:
Dracula Cape (+0)
Traveler Outfit (+0)
Grandpire's Robe (+0)
Million Volts /
District 9 /
Cretaceous Weapon /
Hydra's Gloves
- These should be combined to +2 ASAP, but if you don't have the other gear, +0 is fine
Exploration Domination
Choosing a Realm Trait for Exploration Domination
Options:
Supreme Warlord a.k.a Lu Bu
Sacred Mirror
General Recommendation: Supreme Warlord a.k.a Lu Bu
For domination you should generally be using Lu Bu. His extra hits can make the difference between a 4 round fight and a 3 round fight. If he dies too early (1st or 2nd round), then you will want to try again with Sacred Mirror.
Choosing a Form for Domination
Options:
General Recommendation: Try both
Dragon is the best all-around form. Zombie can be God tier with the additional Ignore DEF % from Serket Staff.
Choosing Gear for Exploration Domination
When choosing gear for domination runs, it all comes down to damage output for the first 3 rounds. You should sacrifice all DEF / HP in favor of ELMT DMG, ATK, and RUSH.
Stats Priority: ELMT DMG > ATK > RUSH
If you're trying to dominate an apostle, you will have spotted the enemy's weakness and do rush DMG as well. Since ELMT DMG applies to both regular and rush attacks, it is the highest priority. RUSH is lowest priority because depending on the defense of your opponent and your own RUSH stat, you may end up defaulting to the minimum (5%). (If you want to dive deep into combat stats, see: Combat Damage)
You have 12 gear slots to fill. You will want to reserve 1 slot for Realm Gear (it will include a DMG +N% bonus for the realm). You will then want to prioritize as may God/S-Tier +2's and beyond as you can, while still filling out the rest of your gear with Red (+0) gear. You may want to choose having 1-2 orange gear and one more red +2 gear, rather than having all Red +0 gear and one less +2. Really this is a balancing act and you'll want to do some trial and error.

Poseidon's Trident (+2 or beyond)
Golden Drazgul Fang (+2 or beyond -- if you have purchased it, if not skip this one)
- Or
Septreasure Peacock Quill if you have that but have not purchased
Drazgul Fang.
- Or
Excalibur EX (+0 is fine, if you've got multiple +3's or a +4 and some +3's, start thinking about making this +2)
Power Spinach (+0 is fine, if you've got multiple +3's or a +4 and some +3's, start thinking about making this +2)
Incredible Key (+0 is fine, if you've got multiple +3's or a +4 and some +3's, start thinking about making this +2)

Empress Gloves (+0)
Empress' Slippers (+0)
- Gear with highest ATK from Red +0 Tier List

True Sakabato /
Blair's Curse /
Virtual Vision

Home Battles
For Home battles, all of the advice and guidance under Exploration Progression applies, with the exception of using any Realm gear. Remove that from your build, change your compass relics and you're good to go.
Farming
Note: If you're farming for an extended period of time, consider dismantling some of your progression gear to increase the rank of your Farming gear. You don't want to miss out on the additional Travel SPD, Cells, Time Chests, etc from upgrading your farming gear.
When choosing a farming Gear setup:
- Equip ALL farming gear
- See notes on
The Great Collector and
Overlord's Hook for exceptions
- See notes on
- Choose a piece of Form-Specific gear that aligns with your farming needs.
- Consider equipping Realm-specific Gear (provides INTEL +% if needed and DMG +%)
- Equip your best gear for progression to fill the remaining slots.
Gear Tier Tables
Within a tier, priority order can be debated. In some battles one piece of gear may be better than others, so use your judgement and trial-and-error to see what works best for a particular battle.
