Description
On Jul 24, AD 1600, this sculpture was created in Benin, Nigeria.
The Benin bronzes are rich in Nigerian ethnic culture. This statue was made by Benin Oba Esigie to remember his late mother Idia. Made by illiterate craftsman using the lost-wax casting, this statue preserved Egypt's oldest bronze-making technique. This method was passed down and used to make valuable bronzeware.
