Description
Professor Gell-Mann, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1969, created this model to demonstrate his theory. It is a classification scheme for hadrons based on their valence quarks. According to the model, mesons are composed of a valence quark-antiquark pair, while baryons are composed of three quarks (2 down quarks + 1 up quark or 2 up quarks + 1 down quark). There are six states of quarks, including up, down, and strange quarks, and quarks other than up and down quarks are rapidly converted into up or down quarks via particle decay. This model served as the foundation for quantum chromodynamics and significantly advanced our understanding of the microscopic world.
