Napoleonic Code | Awakened |
Description
On Oct 14, 1800, French Emperor Napoleon issued this famous code of law.
At the end of the Brumaire Coup, Napoleon became the leader of France. To promote reforms, he eliminated the remnants of feudalism that existed before the Great Revolution, and the traditional concept of class. Napoleon formulated a plan to promote freedom and equality. Napoleon chose four famous jurists to draft the new laws: Tronche, Marville, Preamena, and Portalis. Although Napoleon was eventually exiled and placed under house arrest, this code became a model for national legislation.
