Description
On Aug 14, 1580 AD, the wealthy businessman Sohisa Imai acquired this world-famous pot.
During Japan's Warring States Period, the Matsushima Pot was one of three best-known teapots in Japan. It got its name because the pattern on the pot is similar to that of Matsushima, a scenic spot in Oshu. When General Oda seized power in the capital city, the wealthy tea merchant Sohisa offered him the pot to Matsushima as a gift. Oda was very fond of the pot. With the outbreak of the Honnoji Incident, General Oda disappeared into the raging fire, and the whereabouts of this handed-down pot also became unknown.
