Description

On Mar 15, AD 1215, the United Kingdom signed the first legal document that restricted the royal family's power.

On this day, the Magna Carta was signed by British feudal lords and the Lackland John. This was the first time human rights were stipulated in a legal text and it put the earliest human rights into practice. It declared the principle that the king and his government are not above the law. The listed provisions have a great impact on the system's guarantee of freedom.

[Provisions of the Magna Carta]

Guarantees the freedom of election of church clergy. Guarantees the inheritance rights of nobles and knights. If the king is in violation, the nobles have the authority to overthrow him.
