Description
On Oct 21, 1760 BC, the oldest existing law was issued and engraved on a pillar. On the Sun-god Shamash's birthday.
Shamash handed Hammurabi a scepter, granting him kingship, as well as the code of Hammurabi. The code, consists of three parts: the preface, the main text, which includes 282 rules, and the conclusion. Hammurabi were intended to bring justice across the land and eliminate evil through the law so that the strong could not oppress the weak, and people could enjoy a fairer society consequently.
