Description
On Feb 10, 1899 AD, the Curies named the second discovered radioactive element Radium.
Radium is a silver-white radioactive alkaline earth metal. It is widely available in nature, but in minimal amounts. It was an abundance of about one part per billion in the earth's crust, which is about 18 million tons. And it was the most important radioactive substance before the rise of the modern nuclear industry and is widely used in medical, industrial, and scientific research. Long-term exposure to its radiation led to Marie Curie's death.
