Description
On Apr 17, 1880 AD, the king of short stories, Maupassant, published his famous work Butterball.
Butterball is a novella by French novelist Maupassant, and it's the very story that earned him a reputation. The book uses a brutal war as the background of the story and tells the tale of ten people from all walks of life in France at that time fleeing together in a carriage. During the journey, the prostitute Butterball shared her food with the hungry and thirsty passengers, sacrificing herself for the benefit of everyone, but she had a tragic end. The author contrasts her kindness and selflessness with the hideous faces of those so-called superior people, reflecting their despicable selfishness, arrogance, and hypocrisy.
