Description
On Apr 1, 438 BC, Phidias carved this Athena statue for the Parthenon.
The 13-meter-high statue of Athena is made of wood and inlaid with ivory and gold. As one of the gods of Olympus, she wears a battle helmet and a long Greek dress with serpentine trim. A human face is centered in the breastplate. The statue personifies more humanity than divinity. During the Byzantine Empire era, the original was destroyed, so only a replica remains.
